Tubeprune

This website was opened in January 2001 using the free server provided by trainweb.org at www.trainweb.org/tubeprune/. This new version is on a new server using the tubeprune.com domain name. My thanks to trainweb.org for hosting the site for so long but now I need to expand the facility to allow searches etc., hence the move to our own domain.

Building this site

This site was built in html code using html-kit. It has taken a long time and I have learned a number of interesting things as a result. I have recorded some of the details and lessons learned for the interest of other would-be web site builders.

  1. No matter how hard I've tried, I can't get the effects I want in all browsers and still keep to strict xhtml.
  2. After months of trial and error, I've got the site to work in IE6 (sort of), IE7, Safari and Mozilla Firefox. I gave up with Netscape. I haven't tried Opera yet. If anyone finds any problems, please contact us.
  3. In order to reduce a .gif picture without loss of quality, I found the simplest way is to copy it into a blank MS Word page and adjust the size to your requirements. You can get the pixel size by getting the actual size from MS Word and then using a size converter programme like Typography Converter.
  4. The navigation menu at the top was inspired by a Stu Nicholls file at www.cssplay.co.uk. A very useful site.
